anaerobic respiration in yeast

anaerobic respiration respiration is the oxidising of glucose in cell to produce energy ATP without the presence of oxygen.

  1. anaerobic respiration occurs in the cytoplasm in yeast during the absence of oxygen.
  2. the main substrate is glucose
  3. oxidation of glucose produce ethanol, CO2 and a little energy.
  4. reaction is catalysed by ZYMASE . only a little energy is produced because break down of glucose is not complete.
  5. energy produced generate ATP
  6. anaerobic respiration of yeast is called FERMENTATION
  7. chemical equation : C6H12O6 = 2C2H5OH +2 CO2 energy
  8. products of frementation is used as raising agent in baking or wine.
